PhD Thesis Reading (1)

My Notes^

One of the most meaningful surprises during my placement with Mental Fight Club has been the care and thoughtfulness of Lamis, one of my placement providers. She shared with me a PhD thesis titled “Ethnography of an Informal Community Mental Health Service: Exploring the Place, People and Participation at The Dragon Cafe.”

It’s nearly 500 pages long—dense and incredibly rich. Lamis didn’t expect anything from me, she simply thought I might enjoy it, and hoped it could offer deeper insight into the world I’m currently working in.

Reading such an extensive academic work in between my daily placement tasks has been challenging, but I’m trying to make space for it bit by bit. I see it as a chance to better understand the history, ethos, and people that shape MFC, and by extension, MFC itself.
